[SN 548117] USED Fender USA / 1974 Jazz Bass Sunburst [03]
In the mid-1970s, more and more basses were made of ash wood, but this time we have what appears to be an alder body. The overall appearance is natural and atmospheric, with black pickguard, block binding, strap pins facing straight up, and cushions on the back of the joint plate, all of which are typical 70s design.
The body is made of Alder, as mentioned above, based on the grain and weight. Maple neck and maple fretboard are the standard configuration of this era.
The POT date is "137-7xxx" for the front PU, "137-7405" for the rear PU, and "137-7405" for the tone, respectively. The latter half of the front PU is hidden by solder, but there is no trace of re-soldering, so it is considered original. There is no date on either PU, but there is no evidence of replacement either, so we believe it to be original. There are no date stamps on either the body joint or the neck joint, so we have determined that the guitar was made in 1974.
The overall sound has an open character, with a light high that is more like that of the 60s, rather than the heavy lows of the late 70s. The response is fast, and the attack is clear.
There are some touch-up marks on the lower front part of the body, a bridge replacement, pegs replacement, refret and re-nut, and some other modifications on the appearance and playability. However, the truss rod is in good condition, with room to spare on both the left and right sides, and the guitar can be considered in player's condition.
Although there are some parts that have been modified, you can certainly feel the flavor that can only be produced by vintage instruments of the time.
