[SN C003621] USED MUSIC MAN / SABRE BASS 1979 Natural [03]

[SN C003621] USED MUSIC MAN / SABRE BASS 1979 Natural [03]

A top-of-the-line model from MusicMan’s heyday! A Sabre Bass in excellent condition has just arrived!

Leo Fender, the creator of "Fender," the original electric bass. Although Leo Fender stepped back from the front lines in 1970, he launched MusicMan as a new brand in 1972. And it was in 1976 that the StingRay, familiar to many of you, was released.

The Sabre Bass we’ve just received was introduced as a high-end model above the StingRay. In addition to its style—similar to a two-pickup version of the StingRay—its sound variations, which stood out even among the groundbreaking “active basses” of the time, garnered widespread acclaim. It’s also known as the last bass Leo Fender designed for MusicMan.

It features materials typical of the era: an ash body, a maple neck, and a maple fingerboard. Its most distinctive feature is the control layout, which includes Master Volume, Treble, Bass, Pickup Selector, a Phase Switch, and a Treble Boost. The pickups feature short pole pieces.
The neck date is "AUG 23 1979," the body date is "AUG 06 1979," and all three pot dates match as "137-7919." Based on this information, we have determined that it was built in 1979. There were no signs of the pickups having been replaced. This is a superb instrument that has been maintained in original condition, including the finish.

As mentioned earlier, the sound variations are incredibly rich. It holds its own even when compared to modern active basses.

The neck is currently in good condition. The truss rod is a bit stiff, but we confirmed it moves through a full 360 degrees.
The strap pins had been replaced, but we have restored them to the originals.

This is a rare model in excellent condition! Please don’t miss out on this opportunity!
