[SN 805494] USED Ibanez / MC940 Dark Satin [03]
Ibanez is manufactured and operated by Hoshino Gakki. The company began manufacturing guitars way back in 1957 and is one of Japan’s most established brands. It has long been a favorite among metal and rock musicians.
The model we’ve just received is the MC940. It’s a standout among the countless models known as “Japan Vintage.”
Based on the serial number, this guitar is believed to have been made in 1980.
Judging by catalogs from that era, it appears to feature a mixed ash-mahogany body, a maple and walnut neck, and an ebony fingerboard.
The controls are extensive, featuring Master Volume, Master Tone, Gain, and a 3-band EQ. It’s quite rare to find a model with a built-in Gain control. The toggle switches include a 3-way pickup selector and an active/passive switch.
The sound is warm and characteristic of a fretless bass, yet it’s well-balanced and versatile without being too aggressive. The 3-band EQ is neutral, and the instrument is high-quality in every aspect. Whenever a fretless bass is needed, this instrument will deliver its full potential.
There are signs of general wear, including string marks, dents, and numerous scratches on the fingerboard, as well as some discoloration on the parts.
Additionally, two finger rests have been added. Since there was no output upon arrival, we have performed wiring repairs.
However, the neck is currently in perfect condition, and the truss rod functions normally.
This is a rare find these days—you don’t often get the chance to see one in person! The playability is impeccable! Don’t miss this opportunity!
