[SN KL1101545] USED LAKLAND / Skyline Japan Series SK-4CL [03]
Lakland is a high-end brand based in Chicago, USA.
Loved by many renowned players, the brand is well-known in Japan for being used by Hidekazu Hyuga and tetsuya.
The model we’ve just received is the SK-5CL, a modern-spec model from the Skyline Japan Series that offers excellent value for money.
It is based on the flagship model, the "55-94," and shares the same pickup layout and control configuration.
While it features a distinctive, rounded, and charming body shape, it feels surprisingly natural to hold compared to a standard JB-type guitar.
In addition to a 3-band EQ, the humbucker on the bridge side features a mini-switch that allows you to tap each coil individually.
This allows for a wide range of sound shaping, from a 60s/70s-style JB-like tone with the balance set to the center, all the way to a full-on MM-style sound with the humbucker switched to the rear position.
The sound is characterized by a core-filled midrange in every position, making it highly versatile.
Although this is positioned as an entry-level model within the brand, the low B string has good tone and makes this an ideal choice for a first 5-string bass.
The neck is in good condition, but the truss rod is somewhat seized, making it stiff to adjust.
There are scratches on the body and some tarnish on the hardware.
Additionally, there is some paint peeling on the back of the headstock.
