Atelier Z began its journey as a Japanese brand in 1989. Since then, it has continued to be loved by many artists, particularly for its active basses that blend vintage and modern styles, and its popularity has skyrocketed in recent years. Gaining traction among younger generations, it is laying the foundation to become a new staple brand.
The model we’ve just received is the M#245D Plus. If you were to ask anyone to name the quintessential Atelier Z bass, almost everyone would picture the M#245—and this hybrid model features a Seymour Duncan SMB-4A pickup.
It features the brand’s signature materials: an ash body, a maple neck, and a maple fingerboard with 20 frets. The finish is Transparent Blue, which allows the ash grain to show through.
In addition to the manufacturer’s original pickups, the model features the aforementioned Seymour Duncan SMB-4A pickups arranged in a JHJ configuration. Controls include two stacked volume knobs, plus a volume, bass, and treble knob for the humbucker, with a toggle switch allowing you to switch between the JJ configuration and the humbucker.
