[SN 83381633] USED Gibson USA / 1981 Victory Bass Standard Silver Metallic [12]
The unit we’ve just received is the standard model, featuring a single pickup and passive circuitry.
It features a "Series VIII-B" pickup mounted at an angle in the center of the body, delivering a sound characterized by Gibson's signature thick, punchy low end and a crisp, responsive attack.
The controls feature a simple configuration of one volume and one tone knob.
Additionally, a mini-switch allows you to toggle between series and parallel pickup configurations, offering a wide range of tones from powerful output to a tighter, more defined sound.
The bridge features the TRI-4 “Wedge” Bass Bridge (Schaller OEM), which was a standard Gibson specification at the time.
Its heavy-mass construction and high adjustability deliver stable sustain and a clear low end.
This is a distinctive USA vintage bass that combines the experimental spirit and practicality characteristic of early 1980s Gibson instruments.
In addition to a basic setup, the fingerboard has been leveled, the frets and nut have been replaced, and the instrument plays well—it’s ready to go right out of the box.
In terms of parts, the volume pot has been replaced, but the tone pot is a 1977 model and is likely original.
Additionally, the control cavity and the underside of the pickguard have been grounded using aluminum and copper foil, and a finger rest has been retrofitted.
As a result, there is some paint peeling near the finger rest.
While the exterior shows signs of wear, such as scratches and dents, consistent with its age, no major visible damage or structural issues have been identified.
Regarding the electronics, the pickups, all controls, and the series/parallel mini-switch have been tested and confirmed to be in working order.
As this is a vintage instrument, there are some points to note for those who prioritize originality; however, it is a player’s condition guitar that emphasizes adjustability and practicality.
