[SN 121280] USED Fender / 1966 Jazzmaster Sunburst [12]
Fender’s Jazzmaster guitar debuted in 1958. At a time when Gibson dominated the jazz scene, Leo Fender introduced the Jazzmaster, featuring a newly developed offset contoured body, Fender’s first rosewood fingerboard neck, and a tremolo unit. Although it did not gain traction in the jazz scene initially, it later gained popularity through surf music and the alternative scene, becoming one of Fender’s signature models.
The model we’ve just received is from the “Transition Logo” era and features a bound neck with dot position markers—a transitional specification.
It is equipped with original gray-bobbin pickups, and the neck features a slightly thicker, solid shape that delivers a rich Jazzmaster tone.
While the pickguard shows some shrinkage and cracking, the guitar is otherwise in good condition, with the reddish hue of the sunburst finish still vividly present, giving it a distinctive, classic look.
The wood near the volume knob in the cavity has cracked, and the set screws have been replaced. There is some slight crackling in the electronics, but we have not replaced them to preserve the instrument’s originality.
The nut and frets have been replaced; the frets have been filed down and have 5–6% of their original height remaining. The neck is in good condition, and the truss rod is adjustable.
