[SN 722238] USED GIBSON CUSTOM / Murphy Lab 1957 Les Paul Special Single Cut Ultra Light Aged TV Yellow [04]
[SN 722238] USED GIBSON CUSTOM / Murphy Lab 1957 Les Paul Special Single Cut Ultra Light Aged TV Yellow [04]
We have received a used 1957 Les Paul Special featuring an Ultra Light Aged finish applied by the Gibson Custom Shop’s aging team, Murphy Lab, in 2022.
The "Les Paul Special" debuted in 1955 as the mid-range model in the Les Paul series.
Unlike the higher-end Les Paul Standard and Custom models, this budget-friendly version features a solid mahogany body without a maple top or arched top, dot position marks, two P-90 soapbar pickups, and a stopbar bridge. Despite its simple design, it has been beloved by many musicians, including Bob Marley, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Takashi Yamaguchi, and Motoo Fujiwara.
This model was crafted with the theme of recreating a vintage Gibson, utilizing solid mahogany for the body and a rosewood fingerboard as part of the Historic Collection. The set neck is glued, and vintage Gibson construction methods such as a tubular truss rod and deep joint are faithfully reproduced.
The headstock features Kluson button tuners, a Gibson logo, and silk-screen printing. The bound neck, adorned with dot position marks, features 22 "Medium Jumbo Frets" and a thick, comfortable "50s Rounded C-Shape" neck profile.
It is equipped with two Soapbar "P-90" pickups and features standard controls—2 Volume, 2 Tone, and a 3-way selector—along with CTS pots and Switchcraft jacks.
The finish is TV Yellow, a color originally chosen to stand out on black-and-white televisions of the era, and it has been treated with an Ultra Light Aged finish by Murphy Lab, Gibson Custom’s in-house aging team.
Regarding the condition of this instrument, aside from the aging, there are dents, scratches, scuffs, and paint peeling due to use, and there is a long scratch approximately 25 cm in length on the back of the body.
Approximately 80% of the frets remain, and the truss rod has been confirmed to turn 60 degrees in both directions.
