[SN 312567] USED FENDER / 1972 Mustang Competition Red [04]

[SN 312567] USED FENDER / 1972 Mustang Competition Red [04]

A 1972 Mustang in Competition Red has arrived.
Its metallic red finish features two sun-faded white stripes and fine weather checking, giving it a vintage look and an air of battle-hardened character.

Body materials from this era typically include basswood, poplar, or alder. The interior of the cavity was thoroughly painted, and unfortunately, we were unable to identify the specific wood type as there was no exposed grain visible.

The neck is made of maple, and the fingerboard is round-laminated rosewood. It features pearloid dot position markers.
The nut width is 40.9 mm, and the neck thickness measures 21.3 mm near the 1st fret and 23.4 mm near the 12th fret. With its relatively narrow nut width and short scale, playability is exceptional.

The neck is in good condition, set with a string height of 1.8mm to 1.7mm, allowing for smooth playing without buzzing or muting. There are no signs that the frets or nut have been replaced.

The pickguard is slightly warped, and on the back, some of the body’s finish has peeled off and is stuck to it.

The tuners feature original white F-key tuners.

The bridge, saddle, and Dynamic Tremolo are all original parts.

The pickups have gray bobbins. The front pickup has black and white vinyl-coated wire, while the rear pickup has light blue vinyl-coated wire.
Resistance measurements show 5.63 kΩ for the front pickup and 5.62 kΩ for the rear pickup.

Since there are no visible signs of solder removal in the wiring, including the pots, we have determined that the electronics—such as the pickup pots and capacitors—are original.

With a high degree of originality in its parts and no issues with playability, this is a highly recommended guitar!
