Special Semi-Hollow is an H-S-H (hum-"single"-ham) pickup layout with 58/15 LT treble and bass pickups and a narrow field pickup in the middle pickup. The narrow-field pickups are used in a ham-"single"-ham pickup layout. The narrow-field pickups reduce hum noise while providing the bite characteristic of single-coil sounds and a clear, powerful sound that can be carried through an ensemble.
Combined with a 5-way blade switch and a 58/15 LT mini-toggle switch for coil splits, this gives you 12 different sound variations to fit any genre. The tone control can be turned down for a thicker, sweeter sound, or opened up for a shimmering sound, allowing for a wide variety of sound changes.
Other specs include a maple top, mahogany back, mahogany neck with 22 frets and 25" scale, rosewood fingerboard, Phase III locking tuners, and a PRS original design Gen III tremolo unit. The semi-hollow body construction with f-holes gives the guitar's tone a pleasant air and depth, while reducing the volume difference between humbuckers and single coils.
As of 2026, the "Purple Mist" color has been regrettably discontinued. This is a rare color that has not been seen at all recently.
