[SN 70768103] USED GIBSON / SG Custom Walnut 1978 [10]
Cool 1978 SG Custom in Walnut color!
The serial number confirms that it was made in 1978. Nut width is about 40.3mm, 3pcs mahogany neck. The fingerboard is ebony with split diamond inlays on the head. Nut and frets have been replaced. The body is of course 3pcs mahogany with both ends spliced. The walnut color is a custom color, which is very much in keeping with this period, and has a workhorse feel to it.
The PU is original, with the back side filled with epoxy, so-called "super humbucking". In the center position, the center and rear are parallel. Each Pot is original and both Tone pots are original and made in 1977. Both Vol pots are soldered and marked "7x year", but we judge them to be original because there is no difference with the Tone pot. The jack has been replaced. The control cavity is covered with copper foil for noise reduction, and the ground wire to the tone pot is usually disconnected. The back of the back panel lid is shielded with aluminum.
The pegs are original, but there are holes where other pegs were installed, as if they had been replaced in the past. Both strap pins have been replaced.
There are scratches, scuffs, dents, and peeling paint on the body. There is a large area of buckle scratches on the body back, and the paint is peeling at the outer edge.
The neck is in good condition, and the truss rod can be adjusted to tighten or loosen. The truss rod can be adjusted in both tightening and loosening direction. There are no string marks on the frets and about 80% of the strings are left. Currently, the string height is adjusted at about 2.0mm on the 12F 6th string side and about 1.5mm on the 1st string side.
Overall, there is copper foil on the control cavity, but there are no other noticeable negative points. The front PU has a little less power (* normally around 7k, but currently around 5k), but since it is original, it will remain as is.
