1982 Fender USA Standard Stratocaster, aka Smith Strat, in black finish.
This is a rare model from the iconic era of the return to small heads, which followed the trend of the late CBS period, and was listed in the catalog for Japan as a "Standard Stratocaster".
This model retains the original SSS pickup configuration, with date 125780 front and center pickups and 210480 rear pickups. The bobbins are gray, the pots are original (volume R137789, front tone R13777943, center tone is illegible), and the capacitors are reliable Circle D. Pickup covers and pickguard have been replaced.
H. Gustelam stamp is visible on the neck. The date on the neck pocket is blotchy and difficult to read, so the year of manufacture was determined from the serial.
The bridge is the original one-piece block and plate design, and only the mounting screws have been replaced.
The pegs have been replaced with Cruson-type locking pegs from the first to fourth strings.
Two saddle screws have been replaced on the first string and one on the sixth string, and the length of the sixth string side was not consistent, so it has been machined and aligned.
The heavy body gives a solid sound, and while it has the characteristics of the small head reissue period, it retains the character of the original, making this a valuable model for vintage collectors and players alike. The balance between the fearless look of the black finish and the sound created by the original parts is unique to this guitar.
Missing arm.
There are many scuffs, minor scratches, and dull metal parts, but there are no major scratches in particular and the guitar is in good condition with moderate use for its age.
