[SN 197546] USED Paul Reed Smith (PRS) / Private Stock #4285 Paul’s Guitar Aqua Violet [11]

[SN 197546] USED Paul Reed Smith (PRS) / Private Stock #4285 Paul’s Guitar Aqua Violet [11]

A special instrument crafted in the Private Stock series, “Paul’s Guitar” embodies a simple concept elevated by the finest modern technology.

Built as part of Paul Reed Smith’s flagship “Private Stock” line, this instrument—#4285—is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. It features a classic European maple top paired with a mahogany back and neck, while the fingerboard and headstock top are crafted from African blackwood. The inlays feature “Brush Stroke Birds” crafted from mammoth ivory, and the meticulous attention to detail characteristic of Private Stock is evident throughout.

The Aqua Violet finish has faded significantly over time; the blue tones have largely settled, and the purple has faded gently, resulting in a deep, brown-wine hue. This guitar boasts a highly atmospheric appearance that accentuates the three-dimensional texture of the wood grain.

The neck features a Pattern profile, balancing playability with stability.
The 408 pickups deliver a sound characterized by a tight, sparkling nuance compared to full-size humbuckers, while still offering substantial body and rich harmonics. The master volume control features a high-pass filter, ensuring that high-frequency clarity is maintained even when the volume is turned down, resulting in a consistently balanced tone.

Although the controls feature a simple layout—master volume, tone, and a 3-way selector—the inclusion of independent tap switches for each pickup enables a wide variety of sound variations. There is minimal difference in volume when tapping, allowing for seamless switching even while playing. The result is a highly practical sound character that masterfully balances the richness of a humbucker with the clarity of a single-coil.

Weighing approximately 3.46 kg, it offers excellent balance and maneuverability for its class. Combining responsive playability with smooth sustain, it boasts a high level of refinement as a stage-ready instrument.
There are only minor scratches on the back of the body; there is no noticeable damage such as dents. Overall, it is in good condition. Note that a crack has been observed on the corner of the front escutcheon, but this does not affect playability. Additionally, a slightly lighter cream-white escutcheon of the same model is included, though it is unclear whether it is genuine.
There are no noticeable issues with the neck, and it is in excellent playing condition.
