[SN 83110558] USED Gibson / Sonex-180 Deluxe Mod Ebony [11]

[SN 83110558] USED Gibson / Sonex-180 Deluxe Mod Ebony [11]

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Gibson introduced the "Sonex" series as an ambitious new venture.
This is a 1980 model of the Sonex-180 Deluxe, the flagship model of the series.
Featuring a body made of a then-novel material known as "multiphonic" combined with a bolt-on maple neck, its design stands apart from the traditional Gibson aesthetic. Although created as a cost-effective model, it possesses a unique sense of compression and a fast attack, making it a true "black sheep" among Gibsons.

It is equipped with two original pickups bearing the "SONEX-180 DELUXE" engraving. The Velvet Brick’s characteristic midrange presence and punchy sound ensure it doesn’t get lost even when distorted, producing a tone with a strong presence even when played aggressively.

While its character differs from that of a classic Les Paul, its ruggedness and straightforward nature are precisely what make it appealing. It pairs exceptionally well with punk and alternative styles, offering a model that simply lets you enjoy the sheer pleasure of playing.

A mini-switch, presumably for phase switching, has been added between the control knobs.
The tuning pegs have been replaced with locking pegs, and some locking hardware is missing.
There is paint chipping on the back edge of the body. Shiny spots caused by the unique reaction of the matte finish are visible in several places.
The headstock has paint chips, wood chips, and dents. Additionally, there are scratches, dents, and rust on the metal parts throughout the guitar, indicating it has been well-used.
The neck shows a bend on the G-string side, along with twisting and warping. The frets have been leveled, and there are currently no issues with playability. However, fret wear is progressing, and depending on future usage, refretting may be necessary.
